This course explores the technologies necessary for developing Java applications that provide web services. The client and server components of a web service are discussed as well as the usage of the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) as a mechanism for describing, transmitting and receiving information. XML itself is explored in order to provide students with the ability to define and understand the document types used in a web services environment. The course is project oriented and utilizes the Java web services Developer Pack (JWSDP) APIs. The JWSDP APIs covered enables students to develop a functional web service application upon course completion. Experience with Java and the J2SE APIs is a requirement for this course. Exposure to developing and deploying servlets is recommended. |
